The Moment I Started Watching the Pattern
Yesterday I wrote about the moment I knew that I had another choice.
The moment that I knew that if I changed a response, a thought, a reaction within myself-
everything would change.
The outcome would change.
Maybe not all at once- but
if I could keep experimenting within myself…
if I could keep peace a priority…
my life would align more with who I felt I was in that moment.
I would become more of who I wanted to be in the future.
I couldn’t quite explain it- but I knew it was worth it.
I knew that if I kept trying, eventually- what I was looking for- would come from here.
From this moment.
From this change.
I stopped focusing on where I was going wrong.
Where the other person was going wrong.
What was going wrong.
I changed my focus.
I started watching for the pattern.
When did it start?
When did my emotions begin to take control of the situation?
I wasn’t looking for the moment they completely took over.
I was looking for the first tiny shift.
The moment my emotions quietly started creeping in.
That’s where I needed my awareness.
Then I could see all the ways that I had been ignoring it.
Stuffing it down.
Not using my words.
Not protecting my peace.
I was letting things slide.
Pretending I was fine.
That’s the moment I needed to spend time with.
So I started.
I started remembering why I was trying so hard to change this.
I remembered how heavy it felt to react from defensiveness.
I took more breaths.
I slowed down the conversation.
I took a beat when I needed one.
Doing things this way started giving me real experiences that reminded me just how good it felt to have conversations that weren’t driven by defense.
It became easier to stay calm.
To breathe easier.
To use my words, kindly.
I didn’t wait for the emotion to build.
I was stopping it the moment I was aware of it.
I stopped waiting for the emotion to become overwhelming.
I was meeting it the moment I became aware of it.
Awareness became my starting point.
The moment I could acknowledge it was the moment I could remember.
Peace is always an option.
Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t just changing my reactions.
I was learning to recognize my patterns.
Patterns in my thoughts.
Patterns in my emotions.
Patterns in my relationships.
Patterns that had quietly been shaping my life for years without me ever realizing they were there.
Once I could see them, I could choose differently.
That simple realization became the foundation for everything I’ve built since.
It’s the reason I’m so excited to share something I’ve been creating behind the scenes.
Pattern Mapping is officially launching!
Not because I have all the answers.
But because I’ve learned that awareness changes everything.
Sometimes we don’t need someone to fix us.
We just need someone to help us see the pattern we’ve been living inside.
And once we can see it…
We can choose something different.
Reflection Questions:
- What pattern keeps showing up in your life?
- When do you first notice it beginning?
- What emotion usually arrives before your reaction?
- What might change if awareness became your starting point instead?
Every reflection I write begins with curiosity.
Pattern Mapping is where that curiosity becomes a conversation.
Sometimes awareness is all it takes to change everything.
If you’re ready, I’d love to have that conversation with you.
