Maybe I Wasn’t Choosing Wrong
For a long time, I believed I had spent years choosing the wrong things.
The wrong people.
The wrong jobs.
The wrong paths.
I looked back at old versions of myself through the lens of who I am today and wondered why I couldn’t see what feels so obvious now.
Then one day it hit me.
I wasn’t making those decisions with today’s awareness.
I was making them with everything I knew at the time.
Every experience gave me something.
Some showed me what I wanted.
Others showed me what I would never settle for again.
None of them were wasted.
Maybe I wasn’t choosing wrong.
Maybe I was collecting the experiences that would eventually become my wisdom.
It’s funny how quickly we judge the versions of ourselves who were simply doing the best they could with the story they believed at the time.
Looking back with compassion changes the story.
And sometimes…
that’s where healing begins.
Reflection Questions
- What decision from your past have you been judging yourself for?
- What did that experience teach you that you couldn’t have learned any other way?
